HERA WOMENS CANCER ASSOCIATION
The HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation’s Climb4Life event series is
returning in 2010 not only to raise funds for ovarian cancer research, but also to raise awareness around the signs and symptoms of this deadly disease.
The HERA Women's Cancer Foundation mission is to stop the loss of mothers, sisters, daughters, aunts, wives, partners and girlfriends from ovarian cancer. We do that by funding cutting edge research to find new directions in ovarian cancer treatment, prevention and early detection.
HERA invests at least 85 cents of every dollar in research and programs to stop the loss of women from ovarian cancer.
HERA events are fun, a place to learn new skills and challenge yourself.
A place to turn your passion into action to find a cure for ovarian cancer. Women, men, children and families - all abilities, all ages, all levels- are welcome!
The original Climb for Life event was conceived in 2001, while HERA Founder, Sean Patrick was recovering from her seventh ovarian cancer surgery. She felt a rock climbing event would put a different face on ovarian cancer and get people involved in the cause. Realizing The Climb for Life would raise awareness in women who are healthy and active, Patrick saw greater potential: the event would enable women to be introduced to the sport of climbing, and it's physical and mental benefits.
HERA events are evolving to include climbing, running, hiking, biking, as well as other activities. A Woman's Work assistance pays for a wide variety of needs including child care, housing, transportation, medical needs and more. All women who receive help from A Woman's Work must live or work in the St. Vrain Valley for at least 90 days. In return, A Woman's Work asks only that the recipient pays the kindness forward.
Event dates for the 2010 HERA Climb4Life events are as follows:
HERA Climb4Life Metro DC: Saturday, March 13 – Sunday, March 21
HERA Climb4Life Colorado: Friday, June 11 – Saturday June 12
HERA Climb4Life Utah: Thursday, September 16 – Sunday, September 19
